School Outreach Activity Leader

Storytellers and leaders, we want you!

LunarFest is looking for fun and engaging leaders for our School Outreach project. From February 17 – 19, we will be bringing students (grade 4-7) to Granville Island. Students will participate in workshops that include storytelling related to the Year of the Horse and craft-making. In the spirit of our festival, we are using storytelling, arts, and culture to connect with students in a celebration of the Lunar New Year like no other.

Do you have experience with public speaking?
Are you interested in arts and crafts?
Be a School Outreach Activity Leader for a day with LunarFest!

Dates: Feb 17 – 19
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Learn about LunarFest programs prior to the festival
  • Lead and emcee the storytelling and crafts sessions onsite
  • Coordinate with staff and teachers onsite according to event schedule
  • Able to take charge and work independently
  • Able to attend training session prior to Feb 17
  • Willing to participate in interview if selected

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead craft activity with large groups while following scheduled lesson plan
  • Enjoy working with and telling stories to children
  • Workshops will be during school hours
  • Experience working with school-aged children in arts-related activities is an asset
  • Enthusiastic personality
  • Willingness to learn
  • Good public speaking skills

This year, we have a family theater group from Taiwan visiting. Interpreters will work with them to translate their workshops to all ages at the festival. Applicants must go through an interview process.

Music lovers and language enthusiasts, Jade Music Fest wants you!

Jade Music Fest is a music festival elevating Chinese-language music in Canada and around the world. Through programming such as live showcases, panels, workshops, and artist talks, we invite music industry insiders, music artists, and new audiences to amplify our voices together. With a focus on language equity, JMF welcomes everyone interested in music and Asian culture to join our movement to support artists reconnecting with their mother tongue through music.

Be the face of Jade Music Fest at our live showcases and other programming! Front of House volunteers will help us at each venue with a variety of tasks.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Onsite Box Office Ticketing
  • Greeter / Usher
  • Set up and takedown chairs
  • Promote JMF programming 

Do you have experience in live interpreting between English and Mandarin Chinese? Jade Music Fest is looking for an interpreter to help translate for some of our live panels. Selected applicants are required to attend an interview. 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Live interpretation between English and Mandarin Chinese
  • Communicating with staff and artists prior to event
  • Commitment to the scheduled programming
  • Ability to interpret in front of a live audience

Photographer volunteers will be our eyes throughout the festival! You, equipped with your camera, will have firsthand access to the events and capture all angles of Jade Music Fest. If you know your way around a camera and want to exercise your creativity, this is the job for you!
NOTE: Volunteers MUST have their own equipment and MUST submit portfolio.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Photograph the event in accordance to staff directions
  • Upload photos to staff drive prior after the event
  • Learn about JMF programming prior to the event
  • Stay in communication with staff throughout the event

Are you a videographer with experience recording live events in indoor venues? Event videographers will help to capture audience interactions, artist performances, and festival atmosphere in short video form.
NOTE: Volunteers MUST have their own equipment and MUST submit portfolio.

Responsibilities:

  • Film short / long clips of each event as assigned
  • Communicate with staff and artists prior to and during the event
  • Commitment to the scheduled programming
  • Volunteers will upload all footage to festival staff 

Jade Music Fest is looking for a volunteer to help record archival footage of the festival. This role is vital to keep record of the live programming and will have the best seats in the house for each show! 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Record the entire duration of the show
  • Communicate with staff and artists prior to and during the event
  • Have basic understanding of video equipment 
  • Volunteers with their own equipment are ideal

For our Granville Island Takeover event, we will have a roaming tricycle with a speaker. A volunteer will help to steer it around the island to promote various JMF programming and engage with the audience through music!

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Ride the bike around the island in a safe manner
  • Keep in communication with staff
  • Promote JMF programming to audience
  • Engage with audience about JMF’s mission

We’re looking for volunteers to help out during the Granville Island Takeover! Volunteers will be assigned to the outdoor / semi-outdoor venues and assist the artists scheduled throughout the day. Our goal is to have Chinese-language music and culture be heard across the island for a day.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Help set up / take down basic PA system as required
  • Attend a training session prior to your shift
  • Assist the artists at your station
  • Take photos of your station’s activities and upload to staff’s drive

Join our team today!  We are looking for long term volunteers, who like to think outside the box, have an interest in learning new things, and is a team player. Looking for a commitment of 3 months, with flexible hours based on your availability. This position is open for remote work.

Are you a social media enthusiast? Do you have an eye for what’s in the trend and what’s the latest hashtag?

We are looking for creative individuals to work with us on running and managing our social media pages. We welcome people who like to think outside the box, have an interest in learning new things, and is a team player.

Responsibilities:

  • Writing social media posts
  • Researching
  • Communicating with staff
  • Managing social media pages (including posting and monitoring messages)
  • Creating/editing graphics and images (experience with Photoshop / Illustrator an asset)

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter
  • Ability to understand Mandarin / Chinese an asset
  • Previous experience in managing social media an asset

This is a VOLUNTEER position, aimed at people who would like to build up their resume with hands on experience. We ask for a commitment of about 3 months, with flexible hours based on your availability. This position is open for remote work.

  • Create responsive and custom WordPress websites using Elementor page builder as a foundation, and able to tailor the rest of the site to match mockups
  • Upload festival program content to our website using WordPress platform
  • Development, debugging and maintenance of existing and new WordPress web projects
  • Check website content for accuracy, links, bugs, etc
  • Proofread and edit text before publishing
  • Frequent communication with website staff to adhere to scheduled updates

Requirements:

  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to understand Mandarin / Chinese an asset
  • Previous WordPress experience a plus but not required
  • Willingness to learn and ask questions
  • Attention to accuracy and detail
  • Familiarity with Google Suite applications, Microsoft Office
