APPRECIATION OF TAIWANESE ARTS & CULTURE

ROBERT KERR, VANCOUVER 2010 CULTURAL OLYMPIAD ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Robert Kerr has made a career of bringing meaningful social, cultural and economic value to individuals and communities. The artistic director for the 2010 Vancouver Cultural Olympiad, Kerr headed a team to find local and international artists across the full spectrum of performing, visual, media, and literary arts. What he discovered with the local Taiwanese community and in Taiwan were groups and performances grounded in folklore/classical tradition but forward thinking individuals creating new works. Join us as we take a walk down memory lane and discover the challenges and risks presenters take celebrating culture on an international scale.

Robert Kerr has a long and successful history of producing, programming, and delivering extraordinary arts and cultural festivals and events through partnership, collaboration, and community engagement. Kerr was the founding executive director of the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society in 1985. In 2006, he joined the Vancouver Organizing Committee as the program director for the Cultural Olympiad that featured culture and fine arts as part of Vancouver’s 2010 Olympic Games. Robert is currently a Programming Supervisor for City Cultural Events at City of Toronto.
